A 2010 Vision Ministry- Health Ministry Corner....
Get My People Going!
The Health Ministry Team is hard at work, preparing for our journey that will begin September 12. This program is an Invitation to Wholeness for all of us. God told Moses to tell Pharaoh, "Let my People
GO!" We feel God is leading us to "Get My People GOING!" Our program, adapted from the International Parish Nurse Resource Center, is designed to get us going on some of those things about our lives we want to work on "someday." The Hebrews were "stuck" in Egypt. They started out on a journey through the desert heading for the promise land. With God's help, we will be embarking on an 8 week wellness journey together. Each journey starts with realizing where we are.
So this month observe where you are health wise. I don't just mean how much you weigh or what you eat. That is the one aspect of it. Let's all take a step back and look at the broader picture. What is God calling you to do? In what areas in your life are you saying I need to?
I need to spend more time with
I need to: exercise more, eat better, spend more time in prayer, deepen my relationship with God, be a better friend, get more sleep, drink more water, eat more fruits & vegetables, stop smoking, find more purpose in life....
Are you feeling the spiritual connection to God that you desire? Are you feeling lonely, depressed? Are you attending church as often as you "mean" to? Look for yourself.
Don't let yourself get overwhelmed with this. We're not doing Extreme Makeover here. You won't be asked to change everything in your life. On Sept 12`h, you will get a chance to choose three things you want to work on. No you won't have to tell anyone (unless you want to). You will have your own booklet to work with. You can set your own destination (goals). You can choose up to three things you will work toward during the 8 weeks and you won't have to do it alone.
You will choose a covenant partner to share your trials and triumphs with. Weekly you can check in with this partner and see where you are and where you want to be. At the same time you can support your partner in his/her goals.
Last week I was looking at the program materials and realized I wasn't getting enough sleep. When I said something to Don (My Honey) about that, he said he just heard on the radio that it isn't a good idea to work on the computer for an hour or 2 before going to bed. It is too stimulating. As a result I declared a deadline for turning away from my computer at 9 PM. You know what? I have been getting to sleep by 11 PM instead of midnight or 1 AM since. Now Don is my Covenant partner in getting more sleep. That is just one example of how this program might look. You can work on whatever you feel led to choose. Be praying about this and see where God leads you to look during this month as we get ready for our Journey.
